Arunachal wins best tableau award

NAHARLAGUN, Jan 28: The tableau of Arunachal Pradesh, which depicted the Yak dance -- one of the most famous pantomimes of the Mahayana sect of Buddhist tribes of Arunachal Pradesh - won the first position in the 68th Republic Day parade in New Delhi.

Tripura's tableau based on 'Hojagiri' dance, depicting the magnificent Reang tribal dance was adjudged the second best. The third position was shared by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

In the tableau category, 23 tableaus including six from Union Ministries / Departments took part in this year's Republic Day Parade.

The tableau team received the award from Union MoS for Defense Dr Subhash Ramrao Bhamre at a glittering function on Saturday at New Delhi.

Performing artists were Genden Tsering, Dorjee Tsering, Wangchu Monpa, Tashi Tsering, Tashi Namgey, Koncho Tsering, Lobsang Dawa, Karma Thinley, Nawang Dorjee, Choibey, Rhinder Norbu, Tashi Dorjee, Temrin Tsering, Thupten Chombey, Dorjee Ngurup, Tenzin Samphel, Lobsang Delay, Tsewang Gyatso, Lamu Wangda and ThutanTashi---all from Tawang.

"This is a matter of great joy and pride not only for the members of the cultural troupe from Tawang but also people of the state and our IPR Art and Exhibition team and officers," stated IPR Director Obang Tayeng.

"It is the outcome of our collective efforts and hard work," the IPR Director said, and congratulated all the team members and IPR departmental team for achieving the rear feat and bringing laurels to the state. DIPR

CS takes stock of development activities in Tawang

TAWANG, Jan 28: Chief Secretary Shakuntala D Gamlin took stock of the development activities of Tawang district in a meeting held with Head of various departments at DC's Conference Hall here on Saturday.

Terming the district as one which enhances the pride of the State, Chief Secretary said that forward looking plan with vision map is to be envisaged so as to bring about qualitative as well quantitative jump in all sectors. She added that Human Development is to be ensured along with Infrastructure Development.

Speaking on the importance of channelizing youth power in proper direction, she emphasized on involvement of parents and community in learning process of students. Further she asked the Govt servants to serve with full dedication and make one's tenure substantial by contributing positively.

Speaking on the Govt's endeavour to bring in transparency and accountability in the system by resorting to cashless transactions through digital payments, she asked the Bank authorities to take lead along with support from the District Administration and further advised for engaging ASHAs and ex-Servicemen as Banking Correspondents in rural areas.

Chief Secretary also reviewed the preparation for the proposed visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama during March '17. Terming the same as a global event, she said that no room should be left for any deficiency and asked the departments to identify grounds, build infrastructure accordingly and pile up on medicines and essential items.

She also reviewed the functioning of Health sector, Education, Works Department, Horticulture, Forest etc.wherein she was apprised of the problems faced by the departments.

During the meeting, MLA Tawang put forth before the Chief Secretary the bottlenecks within the district.

He apprised about the fragile landscape of the area that has resulted in numerous landslides causing loss of lives and properties as a result of which many villages had to be shifted to safer locations. Further, highlighting on the BRO road condition, MLA informed that the same has badly hampered the inflow of tourists which has negatively affected the economic growth and also reflected on the difficulties faced in evacuating the emergency patients.

DC Tawang also highlighted various issues concerning the district viz. shortage of officers, need of proper drainage system etc. and apprised the CS on the steps being taken by the District Administration to encourage digital payments.

Earlier during the day, Chief Secretary visited Nuranang Hydel Station, D K Memorial Complex and also inspected the ongoing preparation at the High Altitude Stadium for the proposed visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama . DIPRO.

New Governor takes charge

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Nagaland Governor Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya was on Saturday sworn-in as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh.

Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Ajit Singh administered the oath of office to the new Governor in a simple function at the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan here.

Acharya will hold charge in both the states.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu, his cabinet ministers, members of state legislative assembly, chief secretary in-charge Satya Gopal, principal secretary to the home department, other senior officers and public leaders were among those who attended the function.

Shanmuganathan, a veteran RSS pracharak from Tamil Nadu, had tendered his resignation on Republic Day facing sexual harassment charges.

Minor girl charred to death

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: A minor girl was reportedly charred to death in a fire accident that broke out at Nehru Colony, Dumporijo in Upper Subansiri district on Friday.

In a release, Galo Students Union (GSU) claimed that Miss Chayir Naji (9 years) has lost her life in the fire mishap and her uncle Mopak Laigi sustained severe burnt injuries and he was rushed to Guwahati for treatment.

It is said that fire broke out in wee hours when the victims were sleeping. One more house belongs to one Terpu Nalo was also damaged during the accident.

SP Upper Subansiri, Taru Gusar has confirmed the incident over the telephone. GSU, Upper Subansiri district Unit has appealed to the state government to provide immediate relief and ex-gratia to the victim family. The union also demanded for more fire tender and to replace existing one. The ADC Dumporijo provided immediate relief to the victims, a release added.

AAPSU accuses Centre of making Arunachal a testing lab for Guvs

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Accusing the Centre of making Arunachal Pradesh a testing laboratory for Governors, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) on Saturday demanded the Centre to appoint a person with high moral value, who also has vast experience about the region and its people, as the governor of this sensitive border state.

"A person with high moral value and vast experience of the region and its populace should be accorded top priority while appointing the governor. The post of Governor is vital link between the Centre and the States," AAPSU said in a release, and appealed to look beyond politics while appointing the Governor.

Accusing the Centre of sending 'incompetent' governors one after another within a span of calendar year to this border state ever since the BJP came to power, AAPSU said that they have not only abused the Raj Bhawan but also made a mockery of their constitutional post.

"While one was severely reprimanded by the Supreme Court for his constitutional faux pas,

the present caretaker Governor in question had landed himself in a controversy which is unbecoming of a person holding such a high constitutional post," the AAPSU said, and demanded immediate appointment of a regular governor.

"AAPSU would not tolerate such whims of the Centre anymore. We request that the Centre take Arunachal Pradesh seriously and appoint a regular governor to the state," the release said.

In the meantime, AAPSU urged the BJP Government at the Centre to thoroughly grill the tainted former Governor V Shanmuganathan and award his exemplary punishment, if he is found guilty of the charges made against him.

Arunachal Exhibition Stall in Kolkata book fair inaugurated

KOLKATA, Jan 28: The exhibition stall of research publications hosted by Directorate of Research, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, in the ongoing 41st International Kolkata Book Fair 2017 was formally inaugurated by Deputy Resident Commissioner, Kolkata, S. Nath in presence of large number of book lovers and media persons and dignitaries at Milan Mela (venue of Book Fair) on Saturday.

A book titled "Ethnic community of Arunachal Pradesh" written by Batem Pertin, Director of Research was released by the distinguished guests invited on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, Nath lauded the dedicated initiatives of Directorate of Research to give more focus Arunachal Pradesh, once the hidden land, in global arena. It will be grossly beneficial for the state particularly in promotion of state tourism, he added.

"I was not aware earlier on the multi dimensional erudite activities and achievements of Research department. These are yeoman services for the people and state, the manners and the way things are done," Nath said.

While attending the inaugural function veteran journalists, Arani Bandapadhya in a written statement said "… the list of published books depicts the achievements of an organization which are sufficient to comprehend the passion and zeal in the field of empirical research. I hope, the department will carry on the same spirit to focus the cultural heritage of the ethnic communities."

On 26 January 2017, the Nation celebrated the 68th Republic Day. Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India.

Republic Day is celebrated in the national capital New Delhi, capitals of all states and all district HQs. Republic Day is also celebrated in major schools, colleges and big organisations. Republic Day is generally marked by parades and march pasts by columns of armed forces, paramilitary forces, police, NCC, Scouts and guides and school students. At many places, Republic Day is also marked by cultural programmes, Prabhat Pheris, Bara Khanas and ‘At Home’ functions where senior/prominent citizens and officials share a cup of tea with snacks.

The biggest Republic Day celebrations are held at New Delhi. Republic Day is marked by an impressive parade comprising of march pasts by columns of armed forces, paramilitary forces, police, NCC, Scouts and guides and school students. Impressive and colourful tableaus representing different states and organisations are also part of the parade. Highest gallantry award winners, bravery award winners are also part of the parade. The highlight of the Republic Day Parade is the impressive flypast by Fighter aircraft, Transport aircraft and Helicopters of the Indian Air Force.

In New Delhi, Republic Day celebrations are spread over three days ending with the world famous ‘Beating the Retreat’ function at Vijay Chowk near Rashtrapati Bhawan on 29 January. Yours truly had the honour of participating in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi both on ground and in the air! Had the honour of marching past India Gate as a NCC cadet and taking part in many flypasts over Rajpath in New Delhi zooming vertically up and executing many rolls in the Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft!

However, even 69 years after gaining independence, national days like Republic Day and Independence Day are declared Bandh Days in most parts of North East India. Many anti-national organisations declare bandhs on these days. Despite the heightened security across the region, these national days are marked by bomb blasts and violent acts by some anti-national organisations. Due to fear and apprehensions, generally people of the region avoid travelling few days before and after these national days. For people forced to travel during this period due to urgent work have to undergo numerous security checks by armed forces and police.

Looking forward to days wherein national days like Republic Day and Independence Day are celebrated across the length and breadth of the entire nation without reservations, fear, violent acts and Bandhs!!

Tapuk Taku inspects ongoing projects at Seppa

SEPPA, Jan 28: Parliamentary Secretary (Tax & Excise) Tapuk Taku along with East Kameng DC Rajeev Takuk on Saturday visited different working sites and took first-hand stock of several ongoing project works being executing by the UD & Housing Department across the Seppa township.

Amongst the projects the duo have visited included ongoing school buildings for GHSS Bazarline, Seppa and GHSS Bebo Colony, Seppa under MSDP, Burial Ground-cum-Crematorium, CC Road Network project, 33 KV Transmission sub-Station and others.

During the interaction with the officials of UD & Housing Department, the Parliamentary Secretary has appreciated the progress of the work and urged them to adopt the same vigor for timely completion of the projects.

Cautioning against poor quality work and mismanagement of fund, he instructed the department to give top most priority to quality work. He further informed about the upcoming drinking water supply project for the entire Seppa town and PGCIL Transmission sub-Stations which would result into an uninterrupted supply of drinking water and power respectively. He further assured to provide all possible assistance for early completion of the projects.

DC Rajeev Takuk reiterated that within five years or less the district is going to be one of the most developed districts of the State with the final realization of TAH, upcoming drinking water supply and Power Grid Transmission projects. He exhorted the department officials and constructing firms to complete the projects on scheduled time without compromising on the quality.

Almost all of the projects are in completion stage.

Don Bosco Youth Film Festival of India begins at DBYC

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Inaugurating the annual Don Bosco Youth Film Festival of India (DBYFFI) at Don Bosco Youth Centre here on Saturday, Dumporijo MLA Paknga Bage exhorted the large gathering of youth present on the occasion to be disciplined, determined and devoted to change oneself and the society.

'Film being a powerful medium can communicate, educate, elevate and inspire young viewers," he said, adding that the theme of DBYFFI is very aptly coined, as it is a 'celebration of the spirit of youth' in a positive and inspiring way, narrating stories of young people who face challenges and struggles of life with courage, determination and faith to emerge as inspiring individuals in building the future of the society.

Twenty-four short films of duration of 5 minutes to 30 minutes will be screened in about 100 cities across the country during the two days film festival.

The short films revolve round the theme of youth, their issues and concerns and their role in Nation Building.

The spirit of the festival is to infuse in young people new hopes, optimism, joy and positive energy to live as good citizens and God-fearing persons, which were Don Bosco, the great Educator's dream for every youngster.

Fr. Mathai, Parish Priest, Catholic Church, Itanagar spoke about the fact that the films being screened are all made by young people for young people to enjoy, to reflect and to transform one's life.

Former APPSC member and President Don Boaco Alumni Kathy Pula, Counselor for Junior Alumni Moping Tatar Bagel and SLO (NSS) Dr. Vshwanath Sharma also spoke on the occasion.

Twenty-one educational institutions including some hostels from Capital Complex have signed up for the film festival and about 1800 viewers are expected to benefit from the DBYFFI, which is a prelude to the Feast of Don Bosco on January 31.

Meeting for consensus on creation of new district held at Miao

MIAO, Jan 28: The long felt aspiration of the people of Miao and Bordumsa Sub-Divisions seem to have neared its realisation after a meeting was called for a consensus on creation of a new district bifurcating the sub-divisions from Changlang district at Community Hall here on Saturday.

The meeting convened by the administration was attended by public leaders, GBs and PRI members who resolved to go for a new district comprising the territorial limits of Miao and Bordumsa administrative sub-divisions. DC Changlang, Wayong Khimhun chaired the meeting.

Changlang ZPC Jowkhong Singpho, former minister CC Singpho, ADC Miao T Rumi, EAC Diyun Sabadam Tayang, COs of Miao and Kharsang circles were also present besides public leaders, PRI members and youths from six constituent circles of the two sub-divisions.

Earlier, while putting their views, most of the speakers suggested 'Namdapha' as the nomenclature of the proposed district.

Mein dedicates church to people of Kumari Adivasi

NAMSAI, Jan 28: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Saturday unveiled plaque and dedicated the Mount Carmel Church to the people of the Kumari Adivasi under Lekang circle.

The Church was inaugurated by Provincial, South Kerela Province Reverend Dr Benjamin Elias and blessed by Bishop of Miao Diocese Rite Reverend Dr George Palliparambil.

While congratulating the people, Mein asserted that the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister Pema Khandu will take along with every religion and tribes for progress and development.

He hoped that the new church would spread messages of peace as peace is prerequisite for development and progress of any society.

He also highlighted the necessities and benefits of demonetization which was done with a multifaceted aim to curb black money, terrorism, counterfeit notes and corruption.

Emphasising on cashless transaction, Mein informed that the Govt. at the Centre and in the state is encouraging digital transactions and moving towards cashless economy.

He also informed that NABARD has consented to adopt a village in Namsai district for transforming it into complete cashless.

Joint development meeting of TNT held

KHONSA, Jan 28: A joint development meeting of Tutnyu, Nogna and Thungjang (TNT) villages was held at Tuntyu village under Tirap district on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Wanglam Sawin informed that the road from Lainwang to Thungjang village has been approved by the state government under IRDF and that the black topping work from Kolam to Tutnyu village will be completed within 2019. He urged youths of the three villages to create awareness about the latest government policies and also to avail job oriented trainings like Diploma course in ITI under Industries department.

Further appealing them to adopt alternative cultivation of cash crops under Agri-Horti based schemes instead of continuing the prevailing traditional jhum cultivation system, he asked them to cooperate with work agencies and departments for proper implementation of various development schemes.

Also speaking, Tirap DC, Ravi Jha urged the gathering to abide by the latest government norms of obtaining Aadhar Card with Bank Account through Biometric enrolment as it is equally important as Election Card as a part of Cashless Policy. Replying to public memorandum about defunct Weaving Centre at Tutnyu, he announced to sanction fund for its revival from his untied fund.

SP Jitendra Kumar Meena, urging youths to apply for a forthcoming recruitment process in his department called upon them to stay away from intoxicating substance.

"Go for physical exercise instead and avail golden opportunity of getting Job under sports quota", he said informing about the 10 percent job reservation in Police and Forest departments and five percent in other department under sports quota. (DIPRO)

Jan-Vedna Panchayat held at Pasighat

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: District Congress Committee, East Siang on Saturday organised "Jan-Vedna Panchayat" at Pasighat in protest against demonetization and the alleged anti-people policies of Narendra Modi Government.

APCC president Padi Richo, who presided over the meeting, reiterated party's demand for a white paper on demonetization. The APCC president explained in details about the party's Jan-Vedna Sammelan, its aims and objectives.

Former chief minister Nabam Tuki highlighted the hardship faced by common people post demonetization and urged the Modi Government to make banking and postal services, including ATMs facilities available in remote and inaccessible areas before implementation of such 'draconian' policy.

He also demanded for providing relief to the families of more than 150 people, who have lost their lives during the period of demonetization.

Rajya Sabha member from Assam and AICC State Coordinator for anti-demonetization campaign in Arunachal Pradesh Dr. Ranee Narah exhorted the party cadres and workers to carry the message of the party's movement against demonetization to every corner of the country.

On the occasion, pamphlet containing the party's five-point demands, including the demand for 'White paper', and five questions, were distributed among the public.

Prog on promotion of livelihood and nutritional security for farmers held

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Altogether 50 farmers participated in Promotion of livelihood and nutritional security of tribal farmers at Zimthung village under Dirang circle of West Kameng district on Friday. Conducted by ICAR-National Research Centre on Yak, Dirang, farmers were briefed about scientific rearing of livestock for uplifment of their economic status and nutritional security.

During the programme, GPM of the village, Sackchen urged upon the farmers to rear their livestock in scientific ways to get maximum benefit from their livestock.

Later, some utility items like Tarpaulin, steel bucket for drinking water and milking of livestock, gumboot, umbrella, raincoat with some animal feed and calcium preparations were distributed amongst the farmers under TSP funds of the institute. Besides, large sized Dustbins were also donated to the village.

Vivekananda hospital opens at Tezu

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Vivekananda Hospital, a 16 bedded hospital, was inaugurated at Tezu on Friday by Veterinary, Animal Husbandry and Art and Culture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai.

Being run by Karuna Trust, the hospital has general OPD, visiting specialists, a dental and eye care unit, X-ray, ultrasound facility and a well-equipped laboratory. The building has been donated by Bengt and Eva Wahlqvist while equipments were provided by Jan and Birgitta Opsahl from Switzerland.

DC Danish Ashraf, IAS, SP, HoDs, senior leaders, village headman, PRI leader and general public were present on the occasion.

Both, the minister and DC, while welcoming the initiative of Karuna Trust assured their cooperation in the smooth running of the hospital.

Foundation laid for varsity department

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Kemo Lollen laid the foundation stone of Department of Paramedical Sciences and AYUSH of Indira Gandhi Technological and Medical Sciences University, Ziro at SSB Gate Campus IGTAMSU on Saturday in presence of Lower Subansiri DDSE Yumlam Tana, Chancellor of the university Arvind Kumar Das and vice chancellor Dr SN Pandey.

Lollen appreciated the efforts made by the authority of the University for introducing job oriented courses in the university.

The DDSE said that IGTAMSU has always been committed towards enhancement of technology based education in the state and also requested the Chancellor to introduce soft skill development courses in the University. DIPRO

Training programe gets under way

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: A three-month training programe on Employment through skill training & placement (EST&T) in textile, handloom & mobile repairing sector, a component of DAY-NULM got underway in Daporijo. The training programme is conducted by Urban Department in collaboration with AISECT. EAC Daporijo Manik Bui inaugurated the programe. Al together 50 participants are taking part in the programe.

Talent Show at VKV Roing

ITANAGAR, Jan 28: VKV Roing organized a talent show for the primary students, wherein the students displayed their inherent talents through various activities.

They enacted dance, drama, recited multiplication tables up to 20.

The main attraction of the show was a bhajan by a class I student with playing Harmonium.

Principal of the school A Krishnan requested the parents and teachers to give different learning experience to the students in the school and in the home.

The models prepared by the students were also exhibited on the occasion.

A total of 113 parents and 179 students attended the show.
